Conveyor Tripper Drives

Equipment to extend the length or lift of a conveyor system

Fenner Conveyors manufacture tripper drive systems which enable you to extend the operating length of your conveyor, in some cases removing the need to install a completely new conveyor. Multiple tripper drives can be installed to further increase the length of a conveyor.

Our team have many years’ experience designing, manufacturing, installing, and commissioning high power tripper drives and have extensive experience in their control via PLC. Through our integrated systems, communication is maintained between head and tripper drives to permit viewing of the entire conveyor operation from a single location. This expertise has enabled us to design trippers with de-watering capabilities, conveyor braking and low height applications. Our systems are designed to utilise similar site components to minimise spares holdings while giving you high-end function.

Using tripper drives on a downhill conveyor permits control of belt tensions through regeneration or braking at the tripper drive. Tripper drives can similarly be used for horizontally curved conveyors to reduce tensions prior to a curve to permit smaller curve radii.

Standard ACE equipment design features can be incorporated, such as contactless skirts, removable idler frames (to assist with idler change out) and simple latch guarding.

Advantages

  • Extended conveyor length
  • Dynamic control of input power
  • Reduced tensions along the conveyor
  • Braking control for regenerative conveyors
  • Accurate tension distribution
  • Coordinated PLC control
  • Rapid installation and removal
Tripper Drive Control

Fenner Conveyors drive head systems control the conveyor speed, whereas our tripper drives maintain constant tension of the conveyor belting. Belt tension is measured at the tripper install location via load cells. The tension set point is determined by static and dynamic analysis of the conveyor operation and the load cell feedback defines the torque required at the tripper to maintain the required belt tension. Our trippers work independently of each system, other than safety interlocks.

Our team has designed, installed and commissioned tripper systems in multiple mines with the largest being a single drivehead with 3 trippers totalling a power of 6MW.

Tripper Substations

Tripper substations can follow similar design and layout aspects as the drive head substation to allow easy integration and operation for all mine personnel.
